Meet Jenny—Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice… Unless Zombies Rule the World

Shazam and abracadabra! Did you know we here at Accelity Marketing have real wizards working behind the scenes? While we don't necessarily practice magic, we can make content appear out of what seems like thin air. In this blog series, we will feature one of our talented team members so you can see what we are all about. This month's star is Jenny Weeden!

What is the coolest thing about working at Accelity?

The people—100%. We work hard and collaborate with one another, we care deeply about each other, and that makes coming in every. single. day. so fun.

A zombie breakout just happened in Milwaukee, what is your plan to survive?

I live in Grafton (20-25 minute drive north of Milwaukee), and we work remotely most days, so assuming I am there and not in the city, I’ve got time. That still doesn’t mean I’d last super long if the outbreak spread aggressively, but I’ll take time and location being on my side.

I’m going up north (aka, “up nort”) in Wisconsin. I think fewer people are there (and hopefully that would still be the case), so I wouldn’t be a part of the buffet of people in cities. I’ve got an uncle up there (Prentice, population 563) and we’d be able to strategize with some distance from the outbreak.

Ideally, I’d travel with a small group of people (my husband, cat, maybe my parents and his family if they don’t have other plans 🤷🏼‍♀️). His mom is a nurse, so she’d be clutch to bring with us!

The plan

Regarding equipment, I think we’d need to consider:

  • Taking multiple cars in case one broke down as time goes on, while also driving close together in a pack. People often take one and don’t think about the car’s lifespan or gas.
  • Loading food and water: canned goods & non-perishable items; filling all the water bottles we have.
  • Equipment: grabbing our first aid kit, device chargers, IDs/passports, medicine, alcohol (gin could save your life!), gas and oil for cars, clothes, and shoes. As Wisconsinites, we already have car coats and blankets, jumper cables, etc., for those cold winters!
  • Weapons & tools: Grab our hatchet, shovel, any rakes or tools with wooden handles that we could dwindle down to points if needed, carving knives we own, etc. Stop to purchase or loot (if it got that bleak) a sporting goods store; I’d need to procure some type of weaponry. But don’t forget that even common items can be weaponized! Like grabbing a lighter and some hairspray to roast up those zombies, or your car, if you hit someone hard enough.

The ultimate goal is to drive as far north as possible without stopping to check in with my uncle. He’d need to answer the phone before I went into the house to make sure we’re secure. Then we’d find out if there is a quarantine zone, and if we’re outside of it, then decide whether to stay put or get gas and keep driving. If the quarantine zone was 50 miles or fewer away, I’d likely gather more supplies and keep driving.

What is your hometown most known for?

I loved growing up in Sheboygan; it’s a great city with beautiful beaches known for being the brat capital of the world.

Sheboygan has also become somewhat of a surfing capital, known as the "Malibu of the Midwest," and has hosted the largest lake surfing competition in the world for almost 25 years. Additionally, it is in Sheboygan County (Kohler) that the word “bubbler” was born.

It’s a beautiful city that I’m proud of, and I’d encourage anyone to check it out!

What is your favorite Wisconsin summer activity?

I have to pick just one? Visiting Door County is certainly a favorite of mine and my husband’s. We try to go at least once a year (if not more). I enjoy hiking and going to wineries in Door Co., as well as swimming and watching beautiful sunsets there! Everything moves just a little slower up North, and that’s nice.

Where is your favorite spot in Milwaukee?

I love the amazing and beautiful city of Milwaukee. There are so many places I enjoy and things to do, but I’ll try to limit them to a few below.

If you weren’t in marketing, what would your second career choice be?

Event planning—before working at Accelity, I was looking into event planning careers and planned many events both professionally and for fun (and still do!).

When Jackie and I ran Women’s Entrepreneurship Week, I got to enjoy my skills in that space; I think it’s because I’m super detail-oriented, but I can still see the vision of the event as a whole. Also, events are a good time.

I did get married in 2024, so that drained my event planning energy a bit. 😂

My only complaint about this field… working weekends. I love a casual Saturday.

What is an attainable life goal you have for yourself in 10 years?

I’d love:

  • Happy and healthy children
  • Good health for my husband and me
  • A second property, ideally in Door County
  • Annual vacations (we love to travel!)
