Teleport to his next big travel adventure: Meet Michael!

Michael Ray

Follow the yellow brick road to meet the wizards behind the curtain at Accelity! We might not practice magic, but we can make content appear in the blink of an eye. In this blog series, we will feature one of our talented team members so you can see what we are all about. This month’s star is Michael Ray!

What drew you to Accelity?

The one facet of marketing I have always been drawn to the most is developing strategy, so the potential for a role where my sole focus was immediately attractive to me. What sold me on Accelity, though, was that throughout the interview process, I was impressed by every single person I spoke to – their personality, their expertise, and their openness to answering every question I had while also asking questions to ensure the role would be a good fit for both parties. Long story short, I felt listened to, which closed the deal for me.

What is something you are proud of with your work?

I am most proud of when a strategy I created achieves or surpasses the goals set for it. A good strategy is dependent on gaining an understanding of the client’s needs and challenges, leveraging data and best practices, and also a gut instinct based on logic of what will work for a particular client. Putting all of those elements together isn’t easy and to see it pay off for them is the absolute best.

Who would you switch places with for one day?

Honestly, I’m pretty happy with my life and where I’ve come so far. If I have to switch with someone, though, I’d likely pick a random curator of the Disney archive just to be able to see all of the amazing memorabilia and history of a company I love.

If you could have one special power, what would it be?

Teleportation. I love to travel, and the idea of being able to go anywhere in the blink of an eye would be incredible.

What is your favorite movie quote?

“I guess it all comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.”- The Shawshank Redemption

If a friend/colleague were to bump into you in public, where would you most likely be?

Either out to eat or singing karaoke.

What is something you’d want a newcomer to Milwaukee to know?

Living here my whole life, I’ve gotten to experience so much of what Milwaukee has to offer – great museums, beautiful art and artists, music festivals, amazing food, the friendliest people, and so much more – and nearly everything is a 20-minute drive or less away.  Milwaukee has all the benefits of a larger city without the chaos.

What’s the coolest thing about working at Accelity?

The coolest thing about working at Accelity is everyone is hyper-specialized in what they do. I’ve worked in both the corporate and consulting environments, and it’s not usually the case to have coworkers who are so great at super-specific skills.

What career lesson have you learned since working at Accelity?

I’ve learned that saying ‘no’ to things is 100% okay. Before, I was running myself down trying to be a part of so many things (volunteer committees, boards, and more). Time management is key! Not everything has to be on your calendar.

If Accelity was a comedy movie or show, what would it be?

I’d probably say Modern Family. We are all our own unique selves, and we all have each other’s best interests in mind.

Who inspires you?

I am by far and away most inspired by Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx. She took $5k and built a billion-dollar, industry-disrupting brand. She’s all hustle and results!!

If you weren’t in marketing, what career would you have?

I would definitely want to be a food stylist for photoshoots. Wait, is that still marketing? Hmmmmm ok, something not in marketing … Maybe working in a medspa? (Dang this is hard to choose!)

If you could meet one celebrity who is no longer with us, who would it be?

Honestly, I think I’d wanna meet Betty White. That woman was an absolute firecracker!

What’s your favorite spot in Milwaukee?

Hands down it is Am Fam Field (aka Miller Park!!!!) LOL. As a former 5-season employee in the Broadcast and Entertainment department, it will always feel like a second home.

Fashion is her other passion: Meet Steph!

How has Accelity helped your career development?

After spending 4 years in marketing at a large health system, I wanted to challenge myself and grow my knowledge of digital marketing. Accelity places LOTS of emphasis on professional development and growth. (I’ve already learned soooo much in the short time I’ve been here!)

What do you like most about working at Accelity?

The peeps! Everyone on the team is so talented, outgoing and welcoming. They’re not just coworkers; they’re friends.

Who inspires you?

My family. We’ve gone through some tough sh*t, but continue to become stronger, closer and more empathetic people because of it. It’s not what happens to you but how you choose to handle it that makes all the difference.

What’s your secret talent?

Not many people know that I can play the piano and alto saxophone. I’d have to brush up on my skills…but I can still play some songs by ear/muscle memory!

If you weren’t in marketing, what would your second career choice be?

I used to want to be a forensic scientist…then an interior designer…my interests are all over the board! BUT the dream is to own my own clothing boutique. I plan to work towards that while still working in marketing.

What is your hometown known most for?

Here’s my shameless Rockford, IL tourism plug! I’d say we’re most known for:

  • Delicious local food (Rockfordians are foodies! If you haven’t had Beef-a-roo, Lino’s pizza or Mrs. Fisher’s potato chips…you’re missing out)
  • Attractions like Anderson Japanese Gardens, the Burpee Museum, and Coronado Performing Arts Center
  • And some famous friends who call Rockford home (name dropping starts now): Cheap Trick, Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child, Fred VanVleet, Ira Matthews, Dean Lowery…to name a few

If a friend/colleague were to bump into you in public, where would you most likely be?

Most likely at a local restaurant/bar for dinner and drinks with friends, at a Chicago sporting event (Go Cubs Go)…or out shopping 🙂

She’s all cheers and craft beers: Meet Veronica!

What drew you to Accelity?

It didn’t take long for me to know that this was where I wanted to be! There has always been a creative side to me that has been drawn to marketing, advertising, and branding. But, the real draw to Accelity was Jackie; her energy and charisma are like magnets – they just pulled me in. Also, the direction and values of Accelity really align with my goals and personality.

What do you like most about working at Accelity?

I love the people, the energy, and the ability to be creative while adding your own flare. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging that you absorb this positive energy. It makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger than yourself.

What’s your secret talent?

Some might say that my laugh is a talent because it is so loud…all the time, during shows, watching TickTok or IG clips, or even just hearing a joke; I mean, you can hear me rooms away! But, my secret talent is that I can whistle really, really loud!

What is an attainable life goal you have for yourself in 10 years?

I’d love to build a tiny house on the lake!

What is your guilty pleasure tv/music/movie?

Honestly, that would have to be either a good chick flick (that I’ve seen multiple times already) like Pretty Women, The Proposal, or The Holiday or a t.v. series like F.R.I.E.N.D.S with a glass of wine or a good craft beer.

What is your hometown known most for?

Bedford, Michigan, we are a little town minutes from Lake Erie – the world’s largest walleye and perch-producing lake! We are just minutes from several college and professional stadiums – Ann Arbor (University of Michigan), Detroit Lions, and even the Toledo Mud Hens baseball. We are also surrounded by apple orchards and sweet cornfields!

If a friend/colleague were to bump into you in public, where would you most likely be?

I would say that I enjoy being home with the family at this stage of life! However, on the random occasion when my husband and I have a night out – you will either find us out to dinner or walking the downtown streets of Ann Arbor, enjoying wine or craft beer!
